At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, cattle futures closed sharply higher in light trade volume driven primarily by strong wholesale values. Tuesday’s move is surprising given Friday’s bearish Cattle on Feed report. December live cattle closed $1.67 higher at $121.50 and February live cattle closed $2.90 higher at $121.47. January feeder cattle closed $2.85 higher at $144.40 and March feeder cattle closed $2.85 higher at $141.35.
Direct cash cattle trade is quiet following the distribution of new showlists.
