Although many in agriculture applaud the tax bill passed by Congress, a university tax specialist says there are unresolved issues that could affect funding for the Farm Bill as well as safety-net programs, like “ARC.” Kristine Tidgren, Assistant Director of Iowa State’s Ag Law and Taxation Center, tells Brownfield the projected budget deficit increase caused by the bill could trigger government funding cuts, because of the “pay-go” law, “We have this law that the Office of Management and Budget has said will trigger sequestration next year, in fact, if the law goes into effect this year which could mean a reduction, for example, for farmers in farm program payments.
