A hydrometeroloigist says there is a tool available to help farmers measure the risk of nutrient runoff based on soil moisture and forecasted rain.
Link Crawford says the national weather service is working with states to provide the Runoff Risk Decision Support Tool.
“We hope to use the combination of how wet soil is and rain in the forecast to determine if it’s a good time to apply fertilizer,” he says.
