The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) has determined that there aren’t any national security concerns with the proposed Bayer and Monsanto merger.
The committee reviews national implications of foreign investments in the U.S. economy.
Bayer says the acquisition is still subject to closing conditions, including receipt of required regulatory approvals.
The European Union extended its deadline for review of the merger to January 8th. EU officials have said they are concerned about reduced competition, choices for pesticides and seeds, and the impact on prices for farmers.
