The president of Minnesota Farm Bureau says farmers are not helpless even though NAFTA negotiators remain focused on trade issues other than agriculture.
Kevin Paap tells Brownfield it’s important to remember USDA Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has the attention of the President as Trump continues to threaten pulling the U.S. out of the agreement.
“Constantly reminding him how important trade is. The fact that we grow more than we can use in this country, and we need that 95 percent of the world outside the United States looking for our products.”
He reiterates what many in agriculture have been saying about the importance of keeping NAFTA in place, and encourages more engagement during the renegotiation.
