The president-elect of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) says language in the House tax reform package could bankrupt several U.S. cattle feedlots.
Kevin Kester, a fifth-generation rancher from California, tells Brownfield the tax bill passed by the House includes a version of interest deduction limitations that would harm the cattle feeding sector.
“So we’re working on amendments to lessen that burden and educate both Ways and Means (as well as) Senate Finance Committee staff to make sure we protect our feeder sector from that example of interest deduction.”
Kester does not want the industry hurt by what he calls unintended consequences.
