At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, cattle futures closed lower on technical activity and profit taking. The continued drop in wholesale values is also forcing prices lower. Feeder cattle futures saw additional pressure from today’s higher move in corn. December live cattle closed $.57 lower at $119.90 and February live cattle closed $1.62 lower at $124.97. January feeder cattle closed $1.40 lower at $154.17 and March feeder cattle closed $1.50 lower at $152.27.
Light to moderate trade developed in the South with Southern live deals at $120.00 to $121.00 – mostly at $121.
