Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey has requested an additional $150,000 in funding for the state’s Animal Industry Bureau for emergency disease preparations.
The funds would go towards disease response plans and exercises, and coordination efforts with effected industries.
That is in addition to the $100,000 already received this fiscal year, at least part of which was used to hire a new Emergency Management Veterinarian.
Northey has also asked for continued funding of $10.575 million for the Iowa Water Quality Initiative and $1.875 million for closure of agriculture drainage wells, along with continued funding for the Iowa Renewable Fuels Program, which has received $3 million in state funds, annually.
