Hard red winter wheat crops aren’t doing well in the Plains. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says six states are really struggling, “And the top of the list is South Dakota, struggling with drought like they were this summer. Thirty-eight-percent very poor to poor.”
The other states are Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Oklahoma and Texas, “We certainly need some moisture as we move through the winter across many of the winter wheat production areas.”
Rippey says weather has been very warm and dry lately in the central and southern Plains.
