The USDA says domestic poultry production during October 2017 was 4.323 billion pounds, an increase of 8% from October 2016. Slaughter and average live weights were above a year ago for nearly every category and this year’s production is running ahead of last year by 2% at 40.462 billion pounds. The slaughter of all chickens was 794.187 million head, up 7% on the year, with the turkey kill at 23.008 million head, 6% higher, and the duck slaughter was 2.274 million head, up 4%.
