The National Grain and Feed Association is urging U.S. officials to preserve market access for the U.S. grain and oilseed supply when renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Sarah Gonzalez says U.S. ag exports have quadrupled since the agreement was signed more than 20 years ago, but competition has also grown.
“Particularly in South American, they are ramping up production and we have more competition,” she says. “So maintaining a strong relationship with Mexico is very important, otherwise we’ll lose out.”
She tells Brownfield wrapping up renegotiations “sooner rather than later” would be ideal, but the association is more concerned about preserving gains in market access than a timeline.
