Chicago Mercantile Exchange live cattle futures were lower, pressured by technical selling and the lower than a week ago direct cash trade, primarily in the Southern portions of the major feeding areas. Also, boxed beef was higher at midday, but not to the degree of the last couple of days. December was $1.70 lower at $122.92 and February was down $1.80 at $128.57.
Light direct cash cattle trade has been reported in parts of the North at $191.00 to $192.00 which is steady to $1.00 lower than last week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska.
