The Michigan director of agriculture says there’s untapped potential for the bakery sector to export to China.
During this week’s trade mission to China and South Korea, Jamie Clover Adams tells Brownfield about half of ag trade worldwide is in processed products, but it’s only 25 percent in China which leaves a lot of room for growth. “There are as many people in the middle class here in China as there are in the entire United States, 96 percent of the world’s population lives outside our borders and so to sell what we have, we need export markets.”
She says the trade mission is learning about the potential baked goods and ingredients like dried fruit and sugar have in Asian markets.
