Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner Sunday declared a statewide harvest emergency to assist farmers grappling with harvest rain delays.
The declaration allows truckers agriculture commodities to exceed gross vehicle weight limits by 10 percent. It’s in effect for 45 days.
The USDA says the Illinois corn harvest at the end of October was 11 percentage points behind the five-year average, even though farmers made headway toward the end of the month. There are still transportation backups from earlier delays.
