Former Trump campaign aide Sam Clovis has withdrawn as President Trump’s nominee for USDA chief scientist.
It was revealed this week that Clovis has ties to former campaign aide George Papadopoulos who recently pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about Russia contacts.
Clovis’ nomination has come under criticism from Ranking Senate Ag Committee member Debbie Stabenow of Michigan for his lack of science credentials. In a statement, Stabenow said Clovis’ withdrawal is a victory for science and farmers who rely on agricultural research.
