Wisconsin experienced the first hard freeze of the season as farmers pushed to complete harvesting. The USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service reporters say a little more than four days were suitable for fieldwork as rain and scattered snow slowed progress in northern parts of the state.
Farmers had nearly completed harvesting corn silage, soybeans, and potatoes by Sunday, and corn for grain is still being combined, even though grain moisture levels are higher than desired in much of the state.
