Soybeans were modestly lower on profit taking and technical selling. The trade was expecting solid harvest progress in the weekly USDA update. According to the USDA, 83% of U.S. soybeans are harvested, compared to 70% a week ago, 85% a year ago, and the five year average of 84%. Forecasts have mixed conditions in South America, with more rain northern Brazil and nearly normal precipitation in southern Brazil and Argentina. AgRural reports that overall, as of last Thursday, 30% of Brazil’s crop is planted, about 10% slower than last year, but nearly steady with the five year average.
