The USDA says producers made less and paid a little more in September than they did in August.
The monthly index of prices received was down 1.7% on the month, with 3.8% loss in the livestock index cancelling out 1.3% gain in crops. Prices were lower for cattle, hogs, and broilers, but higher for market eggs, lettuce, and apples, and monthly marketings increased for soybeans, corn, potatoes, and apples, and decreased for cattle, wheat, cotton, and peaches.
