At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, cattle futures closed sharply higher on short covering. Friday’s impressive late cash trade and today’s strong midday wholesale value also provided additional support. October live cattle, end delivery and expiring on Tuesday, closed $4.20 higher at $119.57 and December live cattle closed $2.57 higher at $123.40. November feeder cattle closed $1.85 higher at $158.32 and January feeder cattle closed $1.40 higher at $157.35.
Direct cash cattle started the week slowly.
