The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has confirmed the invasive weed Palmer Amaranth has been found in a fourth Minnesota County.
As part of the department’s ongoing investigation, palmer was detected in Douglas County in west-central Minnesota.
The pigweed species was first identified in Yellow Medicine County a year ago, and discovered in Todd and Lyon Counties earlier this fall.
MDA director of plant protection Geir Friisoe (gear freeze-oh) says it’s fortunate the department is finding these infestations early on, adding early detection allows for an effective eradication plan and keeps the weeds from spreading.
