A Senate vote on Iowa ag secretary Bill Northey’s nomination to a top USDA post is reportedly being held up by what’s being called “oil versus corn” politics.
Political news website Politico reports that Senator Ted Cruz has put a hold on Northey’s nomination in “reaction” to how Iowa senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst pressured the EPA to abandon changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard. Cruz is not big fan of biofuels and his home state of Texas is home to several major oil companies.
