The USDA says domestic poultry production during September 2017 was down 1% on the year at 3.952 billion pounds. Average weights for all types of poultry were up at least slightly from a year ago, but slaughter pace declined, as did the average preliminary live weight.
The total preliminary live weight of all poultry 5.221 billion pounds, 1% less than last year. The chicken slaughter was 738.809 million head, 2% below a year ago, and the turkey kill was 19.023 million head, a 6% decrease.
