The USDA says domestic commercial red meat production in September was new monthly record at 4.404 billion pounds. That is the second consecutive month in a row with a new all-time high.
Pork production, at 2.164 billion pounds, was up 2% from September 2016, the previous all-time monthly high, with a 1% increase in the slaughter to 10.284 million head and 2 pound gain in the average live weight to 282 pounds.
