A livestock economist says the pork industry’s current rate of expansion is sustainable.
Purdue University’s Chris Hurt says a breeding herd expansion of 1 percent means pork supplies will grow at about two percent a year or higher.
He says that’s about the same rate that pork consumption is increasing.
