A corn disease first identified in the U.S. three years ago is becoming more widespread.
Michigan State University soil science professor Martin Chilvers says tar spot is caused by a fungus originally found in Central America.
“It’s called Phyllachora maydis and to date that’s the only one we’ve found in the U.S. In terms of identifying, what you’re looking for, as the name suggests it looks like tar has been spotted onto the corn leaves.
