The popularity of craft beers has created interest in hops. Harvest is finished at the University of Missouri hops research plot, one of several in the Midwest made possible by USDA research grants. Jim Quinn with Missouri Extension planted a variety of cultivars in mid-April and harvested them in late August. Quinn got his first round of plants from Michigan and planted 10 more from Iowa State University. He’s paying attention to research in Ohio, Nebraska, West Virginia and North Carolina.
