Prolonged dryness has some Michigan farmers concerned about how their soybeans will store.
Mark Seamon with the Michigan Soybean Research Committee says low grain moisture at harvest can impact long-term storage.
“What we really like to shoot for coming out of the field is that 13 percent so we can capture the most yield. And what a lot of growers are finding this year are very dry moisture contents in that grain of 8 to 10 percent.”
He says five percent less moisture on a 50-bushel crop is a loss of nearly three bushels per acre.
