The footprint of organic agriculture in Minnesota is getting bigger.
In its 2016 Certified Organic Survey, the USDA says acreage increased more than 15,000 from the previous year to nearly 131,000.
The state has 545 organic farms, the ninth-highest total nationally.
Cow milk had the highest total value of sales of organically-produced commodities in Minnesota, totaling $43 million a year ago.
Minnesota ranks second in certified organic corn for grain and soybean production in the U.S.
