The USDA says 2017 U.S. wheat production was down 25% on the year at 1.741 billion bushels. That was up slightly from August above most pre-report estimates because of the spring wheat number with the big overall year to year drop because of a near century low in planted acreage. The USDA says the average yield was 46.3 bushels per acre, compared to 52.7 in 2016. Harvested acreage for all types declined 14% to 37.586 million acres.
