The USDA says ag producers paid and made less in August than in July. The index of prices received was down 2% on the month, with decreases for broilers, cattle, hogs, and corn cancelling out increases for milk, apples, strawberries and broccoli. Marketings of cattle, calves, grapes, and potatoes were higher, while movement of corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay were lower. Month to month, the crop production index was up 1.4%, while the livestock production index was down 5.3%.
