Net farm income is forecast to rise this year for the first time since 2013. USDA’s says ag producers will net 63.4 billion dollars in 2017, up three percent from a revised 2016 forecast of 61.5 billion dollars.
Economist Carrie Litkowski says much of the increase came from sales of inventory in grain bins and higher revenue from livestock and milk.
“Relative to 2016, livestock–or animal and animal product receipts–are forecast to increase 13.6 billion and contributed the most to the growth in net farm income,” said Litkowski.
