The USDA says ag producers made less money in July than in June.
The Ag Department’s index of prices received was down 2.9% on the month, at 95.3 led down by lower prices for cattle, broilers, and calves, which canceled out higher prices for hogs, wheat, and market eggs. The crop index was 1.1% lower and the livestock index was down 5.3%, while the food commodities index was 3.5% lower.
The prices paid index was unchanged at 107.0 with lower prices for feeder cattle, nitrogen, potash, and phosphate, against higher prices for feed grains, concentrates, LP gas, and other services.
