The 2017 corn harvest has begun in the southern Midwest.
Kyle Kirby farms near Liberal in southwest Missouri and says harvest started Thursday and he’s pleasantly surprised by the early results.
“We’ve seen some corn 50 bushels better than we thought. 100 day corn in the 190 to 200 bushel range, so we’re tickled with that.”
The USDA says more than 10 percent of Missouri corn has reached full maturity, still about 15 percent behind average.
