Brazil has agreed to impose an import tax on U.S. ethanol – a move criticized by U.S. ethanol leaders. The Renewable Fuels Association’s Bob Dinneen, Growth Energy’s Emily Skor, and the U.S. Grains Council’s Tom Sleight issued a joint statement Wednesday saying they are disappointed and discouraged to see the ruling by Brazil’s Chamber of Foreign Trade to impose a 20-percent tariff on U.S. ethanol imports after a 160-million-gallon tariff rate quota. The statement says “politics prevailed and Brazilian consumers lost” – the open and bilateral trading relationship between the U.S.
