Weather challenges delaying harvest in some areas in Michigan

A Michigan seed representative says inconsistent rainfall has resulted in varying maturity in corn this growing season.
Joe Hirschman with Seed Consultants says weather issues have caused some harvest delays in parts of the state.
“There are some guys on the Indiana-Ohio line that put in 83-day corn, so they’ll be harvesting the second week of September, and then there’s a handful of people as north as Grand Rapids that do a 109-day corn that won’t touch it until thanksgiving.”
He says despite weather challenges, the crop overall looks above average.
