Hot weather will continue indefinitely in the Northwest, but near- or below-normal temperatures should prevail in many other areas of the country. In fact, significantly below-normal temperatures can be expected across the Plains and Midwest. Meanwhile, a series of cold fronts will produce scattered showers across the northern Plains and Midwest before reaching deeper moisture and resulting in locally heavy downpours across the South and East. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 4 inches across the South, East, and lower Midwest.
