Barge tour provides look at aging lock

A tour of inland waterway infrastructure confirms that upkeep is needed, but farmers wonder whether funding will come in time to keep the U.S. globally competitive.
Iowa and Illinois corn growers provided a close look at the 80-year-old Lock and Dam Number 15 on the Mississippi River Friday. As the barge loaded with policy makers and media passed through the aging structure, Iowa corn grower Wayne Humphreys commented that farmer productivity is never in question.
