An independent seed company is re-emerging in an era of consolidation.
Veteran seedsman Don Funk has announced that he will relaunch the Midwest Seed Genetics brand. Funk’s son Dan tells Brownfield they plan to serve farmers across the Corn Belt and go back to the roots of the seed industry. “We really see while there’s great excitement for what the future holds, but also there’s frustration and dissatisfaction and it could be argued that the people of agriculture are being left behind and we want to put them first again.”
He says the company plans to increase the opportunity for farmers to participate in process of defining what traits are needed for them to be successful.
