NFU urges “no” vote on healthcare bills
The head of the National Farmers Union has asked U.S. Senators to vote against repeal or replacement of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), “Let’s not make any mistake about it, we’ve got trouble in the healthcare system in America. But, simply repealing the current bill, the Affordable Care Act makes those problems worse not better.”
In a letter to senators, NFU President Roger Johnson says both the Better Care Reconciliation Act and Obamacare Repeal Reconciliation Act would “limit access, increase costs, and lower the quality of health care coverage for family farmers and ranchers.”
And, Johnson says the proposed cuts to Medicaid threaten to close rural hospitals which would affect ALL rural residents, “Most rural hospitals are highly dependent upon Medicaid revenue in order to stay open.”
A healthcare vote is expected today, but Johnson tells Brownfield Ag News it’s hard to tell what exactly the Senate will be voting on.
