The USDA has made public its Emerging Animal Disease Preparedness Response Plan. The agency’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, APHIS, had the framework of the plan three years ago and has since gotten feedback from federal and state agencies, veterinary lab members, livestock groups and others.

USDA says the plan is a “living” document that can be updated. It’s meant to provide guidance across the board for APHIS Veterinary Services offices, state animal health officials and the animal industry roles and responsibilities in detecting and responding to emerging animal diseases.
