The Michigan Department of Agriculture is conducting a referendum to see if onion growers want to continue the state checkoff for the next five years from now through July 28th.
The Michigan Onion Promotion and Development Program was first established in 1977 to improve research, promotion and marketing of Michigan onions.
Growers are currently assessed six cents for every 100 pounds of onions sold to support the program.
Farmers are edible to vote if they produced more than $800 of onions in the past three years.
