Agronomist gives corn a mid-season ‘average’ assessment

When asked how the corn crop is so far this year, University of Illinois agronomist Emerson Nafziger hedges with “sort of average.” Nafziger adds that there are “certainly no outstanding, devastating problems. We have a good yield potential, if not one that’s going to set records.”
He says corn pollination will be staggered because of the high incidence of replanting. “That second flush of pollination is probably going to be about a week after the first flush,” Nafziger told Brownfield Ag News.
