Iowa had isolated precipitation this past week, but farmers say more rain is needed. The USDA ag statistics service says topsoil moisture is 73 percent adequate to surplus, but the U.S. Drought Monitor calls southeast Iowa abnormally dry. Seventy-eight percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent. Soybeans are 12 percent in the bloom with 72 percent rated good to excellent. Iowa’s second cutting of alfalfa is a little more than a quarter complete, and is 78 percent good to excellent.
