Winfield United’s 2016 Answer Plot results are in. Company agronomist Andy Schmidt tells Brownfield Ag News they found grower benefits with Smart Stax corn hybrids in areas of high corn rootworm infestation, “We’re seeing a five-point-five bushel response with the traited corn hybrids, with the Smart Stax traits, over a Double-Pro that is treated with a rootworm insecticide.”
Schmidt says the response-to-fungicides score from the Answer Plot program showed benefits to growers where fungicides are most needed, “Kind of where our data was, we had an 88% positive response to corn fungicides out of 67 locations,” Schmidt says there was an average 15.3 bushel gain from fungicide application among 70 hybrids tested at different stages of development.
