The USDA says producers planted slightly more corn than expected this year. The number was debated for months after a slow start to planting in some key growing areas and widespread reports of replanting.
At 90.886 million acres, that’s still down 3% from 2016’s total of 84.004 million, but up almost a million from the March prospective planting projection of 89.996 million acres. The USDA says acres were unchanged to lower in 38 of the 48 states used in the report.
