Soybeans slow to canopy, weeds take advantage

Increased weed pressure could be a problem for soybean growers whose crops are developing slower than normal.
Stine Seed technical agronomist Todd Schomburg covers northwest Iowa.
He says planting delays were common this spring.
“We’re seeing some issues with some weeds. It seems like the soybeans are growing a little bit slower this year and maybe not canopying quite as quickly. To control the weeds is just a little bit harder without the canopy, and once we get closure it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Schomburg’s territory is also behind on Growing Degree Day Units.
