Mexico is increasing the maximum amount of ethanol that can be blended in Mexican gas supplies from 5.8 percent to 10 percent.
“It’s another step along the way,” says Tom Sleight, president and CEO of the U.S. Grains Council. “It’s great progress in terms of developing a market—from scratch, really—in Mexico for ethanol.”
Sleight says the policy change is not a mandate and it does not yet apply to Mexico’s three largest cities—Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City—but he’s hopeful it will in the future.
