The leaders of American Farm Bureau and National Farmers Union say President Trump’s policy reversal on Cuba risks limiting U.S. ag export opportunities when farmers greatly need them.

AFBF President Zippy Duvall, in a statement Friday, urged the administration to use caution in rolling out any new restrictions in doing business with Cuba. He says Cuba hasn’t bought any U.S. rice or wheat in many years because of “self-imposed” trade restrictions.

Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says Trump’s decision sets family farmers and ranchers in a “backwards trajectory, moving away from increasing market share in a country of 11 Million people.”

Duvall says Farm Bureau will continue working with the administration and Congress to improve ag trade conditions with Cuba.
