Beef Products Incorporated (BPI) says 60 percent of those who viewed a series of ABC News stories believe lean finely textured beef is not beef. It was also presented Tuesday at the continuing trial in Elk Point, South Dakota, that almost a third of viewers surveyed believed the product is unsafe to eat. The meat processor claims in its lawsuit against ABC that reporter Jim Avila’s frequent reference to “pink slime” in the stories resulted in lost sales and the closing of three of its four processing plants.
