Wisconsin’s new high-capacity well legislation was signed into law Thursday. Governor Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 76 which allows owners to repair or replace existing high-capacity wells and transfer well ownership when land is sold without additional state approvals or restarting the permit process.
The new law also calls for the Department of Natural Resources to conduct a complete hydrologic study in four regions to evaluate the potential impact of groundwater withdrawals on lakes and streams.
